Sunset on the beach
Sunset on the rocky coast at Storms River Mouth. Here the sea seems to be engaged in an endless war on the rocks of the shoreline. Waves clash over the jagged edges day and night. A really stormy place!
Waterfall
The Waterfall trail at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp ends at a beautiful waterfall where the water drops over a cliff into a rock pool that connects to the sea. The water is clean and cool – and offers a great opportunity for a swim after the demanding hike!

The colours of a stormy beach
Rocks on the beach at Storms River Mouth, with a piece of coral that had washed ashore. Beauty!
The Big Tree
The Big Tree in the Tsitsikamma forest near Storms River is a giant Outeniqua Yellowwood tree. Standing over 35 meters tall it towers over the rest of the canopy. What this tree must have seen in its 800 years of life!
Bushbuck at sea at sunrise
Some photos just feel like an invitation into a fairy land… I was hunting for shots of the sunrise in Storms River Rest Camp when I startled this female bushbuck awake. She got up from the bushes and looked at me. What an amazing moment!
On the road
The N1 leads from the Musina borderpost in the North-East to Cape Town in the South-West of South Africa. It is a highway that traverses many different kinds of landscape. After Bloemfontein, the dry, hilly steppes of the Karoo give endless views over an empty land.
